BY CAR

FROM MANCHESTER & BUXTON DIRECTIONS

Follow the A6 to Newtown and join the A6015 for New Mills.  Go past the Swizzles factory (left-hand side) and take next left (Grove Street) and immediate right turn onto Wirksmoor Road.  At the bottom of the short hill bear left onto Torrvale Road which runs to the side of a row of houses.  This private road will bring you to the free Car Park at Torr Vale Mill.  A short walk (2 minutes) down the hill will bring you to Torr Vale Mill and The Cheese Wheel.  SAT NAV: SK22 3HS

FROM HAYFIELD & GLOSSOP DIRECTIONS

Follow the A6015 through New Mills.  Do not turn right onto the B6101 for the Town Centre but continue past this junction.  Turn right at Jodrell Street and continue along this road.  At the crossroads with Wirksmoor Road (near to the Rock Inn) continue straight ahead onto a private road.  A right turn will then bring you to the free Car Park at Torr Vale Mill.  A short walk (2 minutes) down the hill will bring you to Torr Vale Mill and The Cheese Wheel.  SAT NAV: SK22 3HS

FROM MARPLE DIRECTION

Follow the B6101 to New Mills.  At the roundabout by the bus station, turn right and continue along the B6101 until you reach the junction with the A6015.  Turn right at this junction and then turn right onto at Jodrell Street and continue along this road.  At the crossroads with Wirksmoor Road (near to the Rock Inn) continue straight ahead onto a private road.  A right turn will then bring you to the free Car Park at Torr Vale Mill.  A short walk (2 minutes) down the hill will bring you to Torr Vale Mill and The Cheese Wheel.  SAT NAV: SK22 3HS

Please note that whilst Torr Vale Mill boasts ample free parking, all persons entering the car park do so at their own risk and neither The Cheese Wheel or Torr Vale Mill are in any way responsible for any loss, injury or damage sustained by them or for loss or damage to vehicles and their contents left within the car park.

 

BY TRAIN

New Mills boasts two railway stations:

New Mills Central is located on the Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield Hope Valley line – frequent train services operate in both directions via Marple and Chinley. Exit from Platform 1 and you will see a path down the riverside.  This will bring you to a footbridge crossing the River Goyt and the entrance to Torr Vale Mill.  At the steps turn left into the mill complex for The Cheese Wheel shop.  5-minute walk from the station.

New Mills Newtown is located on the Manchester Piccadilly to Buxton line – frequent train services operate in both directions via Stockport, Hazel Grove, Whaley Bridge and Chapel-en-le-Frith.  Exit from Platform 1 and walk down the hill towards the Swizzles factory.  Just past the factory, turn left onto Grove Street and then immediately right turn onto Wirksmoor Road.  At the bottom of the short hill bear left onto Torrvale Road which runs to the side of a row of houses.  This private road will bring you to the car park for Torr Vale Mill.  Continue down the hill to the mill complex and The Cheese Wheel.  10-minute walk from the station.

 

BY BUS

The following bus services stop at New Mills bus station which is a 10-minute walk to The Cheese Wheel.

Operated by High Peak Buses:

  • 60/60A Hayfield to New Mills and Whaley Bridge and Macclesfield (Mondays to Saturdays only, Bank Holidays excluded)

  • 61 Glossop to New Mills and Buxton (Mondays to Saturdays only, Bank Holidays excluded)

  • 389 New Mills Town Service via Whitle, Thornsett and Low Leighton (Monday to Fridays, Bank Holidays excluded)

Operated by Stagecoach Manchester:

  • 358 Hayfield to New Mills, Marple and Stockport (Mondays to Sundays, some Bank Holidays)

From the bus station, walk down the steps towards the Torrs and the River Goyt.  At the bottom turn right and continue along the Millennium Walkway.  At the end of the walkway there is a footbridge on your left which will bring you to Torr Vale Mill.  Turn left at the steps to find the entrance to The Cheese Wheel.  10-minute walk.

 

ON FOOT

WALKING FROM NEW MILLS TOWN CENTRE

From the Bus Station, walk down the steps towards the Torrs and the River Goyt.  At the bottom turn right and continue along the Millennium Walkway.  At the end of the walkway there is a footbridge on your left which will bring you to Torr Vale Mill.  Turn left at the steps to find the entrance to The Cheese Wheel.  10-minute walk.

ALTERNATIVE WALKING ROUTE

From the Bus Station, follow Union Road in a southerly direction past Sett Valley Cycles and over the River Goyt.  At the traffic lights, turn right onto Albion Road (A6015 main road towards Newtown).  Take a right turn onto Jodrell Street and continue straight ahead onto Torr Vale Road, a private road which will take you into the Torr Vale Mill car park.  From there, walk down the hill towards the mill complex and the entrance to The Cheese Wheel.  15-minute walk.
